She's Here!!! Scout arrived today just after 3:00 PM MST on a beautiful Pioneer Day! What can I say, we have a knack for delivering on holidays. It was the culmination of a long last few days. Just to warn you now, this may be one of the longest posts you've ever seen so if you are pressed for time, leave now and come back when you've got an extra half hour. You can read about some of our past Doctor/Hospital visits in my last post, but that was just the beginning. I belive I left off talking about how bummed we were that she didn't come Tuesday right after the cerclage was removed, so I pick up the timeline from there.
Wednesday July 23rd
We went back to the Doctor's office this morning at 9:10 AM to have Cass checked out. She had dialated to four - four and a half centimeters the day before after the cerclage was removed, but because she wasn't having any contractions at all we were told to come back. As the Doctor checked her again, she was about a five. Luckily Cass's Doctor was as anxious to get her here as we were (long story short; her Doctor would be in town and on call for the rest of the week, but then would be on vacation for the next week and a half, and she really wanted to deliver Scout, plus we didn't even try to hide the fact that we would like Scout here as soon as posible and that we were ready for her). She told Cass to give her a call later in the day to see how things were going and that if she felt any contracting at all to head to Labor and Delivery and that should be enough for them to admit her and begin labor. If she didn't feel any contractions, we could come back in and see her again the next day.
We didn't want to just sit around so we tried to think of somewhere we could go and walk around and try to make Scout as uncomfortable as possible so that she would decide she wanted out. Having already been to the mall in Orem, our choice was Cabela's in Lehi. We walked around looking at the fish and stuffed animals for about an hour and Cass was feeling some pain, but not so much contractions. After a while, Cass was worn out and we decided that she just wasn't ready at the moment so we headed home. After a nap the pain had completely gone and other than Scout bouncing off the walls in her padded room, there were no signs of contractions. We decided that it was a mistake to let Cassidy come home and lay down as any chance we had of inducing contractions had been lost, so we decided to try and get them going again. We called the Doctor and it looked like we would need to meet with her tomorrow. We went to the mall in Provo and walked around for a while and then went for another walk around the neighborhood when we got home. Cass was jumping/jogging/hopping most of the walk and we were even tempted to have her take a few bounces on a trampoline that we passed. We got home from our walk around 9:45 PM and Cass was feeling some pretty good contractions. After taking a shower and relaxing a bit, they were still going so we decided to head to the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital around 10:30 and they hooked her up to the monitors and started to follow her contractions. After about an hour of monitoring, the contractions were pretty regular and happening every few minutes or so, but the problem now was that she was no longer dialating. In fact the nurse that was checking her let her know that she was back down to a four. We were so disappointed because we thought that because of this the Doctor wouldn't even bother having us come in the next morning. They gave Cass some Percocet for the pain and discouraged, we went home to try and get some sleep.
Thursday July 24th
Happy Pioneer Day! We woke up this morning wondering if Scout would ever come. Cass decided it was time for me to get a hair cut and not letting me tell her "no" anymore she cut my hair and then called the Doctor. We had originally planed on meeting with her at 10:00 AM but because we weren't sure what the Doctor would want to do since we had been sent home the night before, Cass called her at 9:00 AM to see what the plan was. Lucky for us the Doctor had us come in anyway. The Doctor checked her cervix and she was dialated to six centemeters so the doctor told us at any sign of contractions we should be fine heading to Labor and Delivery again. We walked around a bit to try and get some going and even though they weren't strong, Cass though she felt a few and we headed over to the hospital just after 11:00 AM.
The nurses hooked her up to the monitors again and after another hour or so of tests Cass was showing no signs of contractions at all. We thought for sure they would send us home again, but they called Cassidy's Doctor and the Doctor told them that because of Cass's history she would feel more comfortable keeping her and inducing labor. We were so excited! They moved Cass to a Labor Room and got her situated around 12:30 and the Doctor came and broke her water bag. They told her she could get her epidural whenever she wanted it and Cass let them know that right then was just fine. They also hooked her up to an I.V. and started giving her some Oxytocin to induce contractions. Once the epidural was in she couldn't feel a thing and the contractions started to come regularly. The nurses would come in and check her periodically and she gradually dialated more an more until around 2:20 PM they decided to have her start to push. She did great pushing and at 3:05 Scout was here.
We are so excited to have her here and she's just amazing. She is a perfectly healthy baby at 6 pounds 7 ounces and 18 1/2 inches long and she's doing great. Cassidy is doing just fine also and we are so happy to have our Pioneer Day Baby! We had thought that with her being born on Pioneer day that we would have to name her Emma or Eliza or some other Pioneer name, but "Scout" fits her just fine. So here are some pictures and a video, we hope you enjoy them. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful and feel so blessed that our little family is getting bigger.
